River Island Sale Haul

Damn you four letters. Why can I not resist that word in big red letters? I’m like a magpie to the crown jewels when it comes to the word sale. But buying clothes means more haul posts for the blog, so technically it can be classed as work, right? Or so I’m telling myself anyway…

So I was just strolling around town, minding my own business when I spotted a sale on in River Island, I love the clothes from there, but usually never bother getting anything as I can’t justify treating myself very much now that Archie is here. But I decided to have a look anyway just to see if there were any bargains to be had.

Whoops. There was.

I picked up some amazing pieces that I’m so glad I have my hands on now and I saved a total of £83! I was really in need of some confidence-boosting outfits. I’m still trying to get used to this new body and a new ‘mum’ look, so it’s nice to finally feel good about the way I look.

Things for me…

Embroidered top, £38 £15

This purchase is completely out of my comfort zone. Like seriously, I would never buy something so (as I regard it) out there. It’s the kind of item that I would look at on someone else and be envious that I didn’t own something so cool. But since becoming a mum, I just keep thinking “why the hell shouldn’t I wear what I really want to?” I love the bohemian edge it has, which is a style I always adore on others but never pick up for myself. I’m even thinking I may dig out those biker boots I’ve hidden at the bottom of the wardrobe to go full-on edgy with this.

As you’ve probably noticed I have a weakness for anything embroidered – it’s most likely the stitcher in me trying to make an appearance, which of course I embrace. The sharp edges and colours remind me somewhat of Japanese attire, which again, I absolutely adore.

I refer to this as a top very loosely, as it’s actually kind of a cardigan, due to the little tie front. You’d definitely have to wear a little black (or even contrasting-coloured) cami underneath it to sustain some modesty – unless of course, you’re feeling a little risk-ay!

How to style

There’s so many different things you could pair this with, like I mentioned before, some biker boots would look really cool with it, but equally so would court heels or sandals. For a more casual look, I’d opt for ripped denim jeans and boots. And for an evening outfit, I’d choose black skinny jeans with statement shoes!

Graphic tee, £20 £7

As well as being a completely fun and definitely an impulse purchase, this top kind of has some meaning behind it. Chris and I have been talking so much lately about our future plans to buy a property in France. I also often refer to him as darling, so this tee was extra-fitting. And it has pompoms… pompoms people!

I’ve never really been one for graphic tees. To be honest, I just don’t think I’ve found one that speaks to me and I know that may sound silly when choosing clothes, but I think it’s important that you channel your personality through your style.

But this top is totally me. Pompoms and all!

How to style

What I love most about this tee is the ability to be creative with the styling – it’s one you can really have a lot of fun with. Which is ultimately what fashion should be about. As a casual look it will be my go-to throw on tee to lift my mood, paired with jeans and flats. With maybe a bright bag to accompany.

But this is totally something I’d wear in the office. Likely because my office is full of creatives and anything goes, but also because paired with a fitted skirt it would look amazing.

Floral blazer, £65 £25

I spied this blazer when it first came into the store and I absolutely loved it. The colour is amazing and the print is so feminine it makes me want to frolic in a field of daisies (not that it would be a pretty sight for anyone). I remember looking at it in awe but simply not being able to justify the original price tag. I love items like this that you can just throw on with a pair of jeans and a little top and it gives it an instant glam update and at just £25 I of course had to have it!

The length is fabulous, because it almost makes it pair up as a coat. I hate going shopping in thick clothing as I always get too hot, but this would be the perfect alternative. It’s also ideal for a date night where you may need to cover up on a chilly evening, but still want to look glam.

How to style

Oh what fun I’m going to have with this! I think I will channel my best friend with this one. She is the most stylish person I know, and this blazer is something she would totally rock. So I’m going to take inspiration from her and pair it with a fitted pair of skinny jeans, and some gorgeous court heels.

…And for the mini

I also managed to pick up a couple of bits for Archie too. I went for size 12-18 months so that I have some pieces for when he’s bigger as we’re very quickly running out of clothes for him.

Camo tee, £8 £4

How cute is this little camo tee? I can’t wait to see Archie running around in this, I just know he’ll look adorable in it. I love the double-layer effect – so fashionable!

Khaki top, £7 £4

I love how cool this top is. I’m seriously wishing they did a bigger version for Chris so that they could be twins! This colour is definitely one of my favs (I’m even wearing a jacket in khaki as I type this).
