Possibly the biggest strain on any relationship is when children are brought into the mix. Suddenly you go from being each other’s main priority to feeling like you’re competing with your child for your partner’s attention.
Frustrations can run high when you’re overwhelmed with lack of sleep, dirty nappies and screaming babies, but it’s important to remember that the other person is there for you. After all, you’re in this together.
Here’s some key tips on how to keep your relationship strong after having a baby…
TALK | No matter how tired you are, make sure you set aside some time every day to just talk to each other. Whether that’s about your day or to talk through any worries you have. Make sure you make that time for each other.
BE TACTILE | Don’t forget that a quick cuddle, a kiss on the forehead or a simple “I love you” can go a long way in making your partner’s day go a lot better.
HAVE FUN | Being parents is hard work for both of you. Whether you’re the stay-at-home mum or the partner going to work every day. It’s tough going. But make sure you have fun together. Pop on a funny film, or talk about some great memories you’ve had together and just have a giggle.
MAKE TIME FOR EACH OTHER | If you have friends or family who have offered to look after your little one, take them up on that offer! Enjoy some quality time together, just the two of you, after all you have a beautiful family because you fell in love and it’s important to keep the love alive.
